| Cranberries ~ Public Officials Workshop | |
Public Officials Workshop Date: Wednesday, June 4th, 2008 The Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association, in collaboration with the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension service, is hosting a public official’s workshop on Wednesday June 4th at the Southers Marsh Golf Club in Plymouth. All town boards and commissions that may have involvement with cranberry operations in southeastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands are invited. Additionally, state legislators and their aides are invited as well. This day-long program will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about cranberry agriculture, regulations, cultural practices, water use, and more. By attending, you will have the opportunity to interact with officials from the Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, among others. The program will conclude with a tour of Queen Bog in Plymouth, owned and operated by Edgewood Bogs. Queen Bog epitomizes a modern cranberry operation, where you will have the opportunity to see first-hand the use of a tailwater recovery pond, bog renovation, varietal diversification, irrigation automation and other modern environmental improvements. Pre-registration is required. With the help of Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, we have worked to minimize your cost. All attendees will receive a copy of the University of Massachusetts Cranberry Station’s Executive Summary of the Massachusetts Cranberry Production Manual. The registration deadline is May 27, 2008.
