| About Us ~ President's Message | |
President's Message: December 2005 Greetings to all! It is difficult to believe that another year has passed and a new year is right around the corner. I am sure that we all receive reminders, from non-grower friends that harvest is over and we can all relax and enjoy the holidays. I find that the best response is a light smile and nod. It is just too difficult to explain that cranberry farms are also businesses that need to be managed properly, year round, to ensure a future. That management will require much effort and time, from the owners, this year due to a lower than expected crop. The cranberry industry, especially Massachusetts, has seen huge fluctuations in both production and grower returns in the past 10 years. How we, as businessmen and women, guide our farms through these times is important, not only for our families, but also the industry. I want to assure you that CCCGA is dedicated to supporting its members, their respective farms and our industry. Our stated goal is to “enhance the economic viability of the Massachusetts cranberry grower”. The staff and board take that challenge very seriously. CCCGA has experienced a great deal of change throughout the last year. The association has successfully pursued grant opportunities, increasing its financial solidity, while staff changes have allowed the CCCGA to grow and become a stronger beacon for our agricultural industry. Support for our industry has amplified from local, state and federal authorities. They realize the important role of our industry to maintain a healthy environment and thriving economy in southeastern Massachusetts. With the steadfast resolve of our growers and dedication from the board and staff of CCCGA we will prevail once again through these adverse times. I wish you all the best this holiday season and a very happy and healthy New Year! Sincerely,
Peter D. Beaton |
